Unclaimed Money (UM) is money that legally belongs to you but could not be paid out, and is therefore surrendered by companies to the Registrar of Unclaimed Moneys at the Accountant General's Department of Malaysia (JANM) under the Unclaimed Moneys Act 1965. Check your name or identification number on the eGUMIS portal (egumis.anm.gov.my), register an account, and apply for a refund. Checking and claiming are free, there is no time limit to claim, and JANM does not appoint any agents.

Your money may be waiting in a government database without you even knowing — dividends you never got around to claiming, the balance of an old bank account, or an insurance payout that never reached you. It all accumulates under one official name: Unclaimed Money (UM).
What is unclaimed money?
Unclaimed Money is money that legally belongs to someone but fails to reach its owner. Under the Unclaimed Moneys Act 1965, entities such as companies, statutory bodies, registered societies and cooperatives, corporations, trade unions and firms are required to surrender such money to the Registrar of Unclaimed Moneys at the Accountant General’s Department of Malaysia (JANM) once it becomes dormant.
Three main categories are surrendered as UM:

Once surrendered, the money is held and can be claimed back by the rightful owner — without interest, at the original amount surrendered by the company.
How do you check and claim?
The official portal is eGUMIS (egumis.anm.gov.my), JANM’s online system. The process is straightforward:
- Enter your name or identification number to check whether there is a matching record.
- Register as a user and log in to view the full details.
- Submit a refund application online and upload the required supporting documents.
- Send the original documents (such as your identity card and bank details) within 7 working days of the online application date.
You can also check in person at a JANM office counter or state branch. Once the documents are fully verified, the refund is processed within 30 working days.
Is there any cost or expiry date?
No to both. Checking, registering and applying are completely free. JANM stresses that it does not appoint any individual, firm or company as a middleman or agent — so be wary of parties offering “claiming services” for a fee.
More importantly, there is no time limit to claim. The rightful owner or heir may apply at any time, even years later; payment may be made from either the Consolidated Trust Account or the Revenue Account. If you only save a draft application without submitting it, the draft is kept for 7 days before being automatically deleted.
For companies and firms
If you manage an entity, the obligation runs in the opposite direction: you must surrender unclaimed money to the Registrar. Surrender is made through eGUMIS by uploading the UM register, the relevant forms and proof of payment, and must reach the Registrar no later than 31 March each year for money that became dormant in the preceding year.

Is there an expiry date for claiming my money?
