The train gets you to a station. It rarely gets you home. That gap — from the MRT or LRT platform to your doorstep, your office park or the wet market two neighbourhoods over — is filled by a fleet most riders barely think about: the Rapid KL buses.

## Who actually runs the Klang Valley's buses?

The operator is **Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd**, a wholly-owned subsidiary of **Prasarana Malaysia Berhad**, the government transport agency. Rapid Bus was formed in 2013 to consolidate the group's bus operations. It runs the Klang Valley network under the **Rapid KL** brand, and also operates **Rapid Penang** on Penang Island and the mainland.

So while Rapid Rail runs the MRT, LRT and monorail lines, Rapid Bus runs everything on wheels — and the two are meant to work as one system.

## What kinds of buses does Rapid KL run?

The network is more than one thing. Rapid KL operates:

## Why do feeder buses exist at all?

Rail is expensive to build and follows fixed lines. A single MRT station can sit a kilometre or more from the homes it is meant to serve. Feeder buses close that distance, looping through housing estates to deposit riders at the station gate — which is why they carry route numbers tied to specific stations rather than city-wide destinations.

## What does a ride cost?

Fares run from **RM1 to RM5**, depending on how many fare zones you cross. Payment is **cashless only** — a Touch 'n Go card or a MyRapid Concession Card. Seniors, students and persons with disabilities pay a **50% concession** rate.

## What is changing in 2026?

Rapid Bus is restructuring its lowest-ridership routes. On **16 January 2026**, it began converting **19 routes** — **16 MRT feeder routes and 3 standard Rapid KL routes**, about **7%** of the roughly **281 routes** it manages — into a bookable **Rapid KL On-Demand** van service instead of fixed-schedule buses.

Acting CEO Ku Jamil Zakaria said the decision was "data-driven, based on findings from the Demand-Led Bus Network Study," a review of actual passenger usage begun in mid-2024. Riders on affected routes book a van through the Rapid On-Demand app rather than waiting at a stop for a scheduled bus.
